January Recap and Resources

[00:00:00] Priscilla: Welcome back to the podcast. It's been a hot minute. I wanted to start by recapping what happened on the podcast in Episode 2, we discussed Iridology, Detox, and Regenerative Health with Heidi, and it was so inspiring to hear how she has reclaimed her health and is helping others on the journey. She really piqued my interest in Iridology as I had not heard of it before, and basically if you also haven't heard of it, it's a reading using your eyes to map to the organs of the body to see if there are any areas of possible concern.

[00:00:33] It can be used as a starting point and in conjunction with medical advice. I found her discussion on detox to actually be fantastic as I think it is often a negative and diet culture connotation, but the way she talks about it is all about supporting the body. And in episode three, we discuss the healing power of dance with Kareem.

[00:00:55] Dance has been a modality she personally has used to heal from depression and regularly sees soothe the aches and pains of aging, as well as bring joy to those who join her in dance practice. The mind body connection is a powerful force and you can feel her joy and lightness as she talks. We further discuss the healing that comes through forgiveness.

[00:01:19] And how she can incorporate that into dance. She also offers a free monthly Zoom class if you'd like to give it a try. Both are fantastic episodes. So if you haven't yet, I'd encourage you to give them a listen to catch up on all the details and nuances.

[00:01:37] I had the opportunity to go to Imaging USA in Kentucky this past weekend to up my photography and business skills. And on the way there, I listened to some more episodes of the Quiet the Diet podcast.

[00:01:48] Can't recommend it enough. And I'm going to give them a free plug right now because I've been so impressed with some of their latest episodes. There's one on hormone replacement therapy, which if you think it's dangerous, think again, they go over the differences in progesterone and what to stay away from.

[00:02:07] I remember as a horse crazy kid, reading my young rider magazine and learning about how they were making hormones out of pregnant mare urine. Well, not only was that inhumane for the horses involved because the mares were standing in stalls all day. The science now shows that the drug Premarin had some major negative effects for women's health

[00:02:26] because of these effects some people are afraid of hormone therapy, but you don't have to be because the industry has come a long way and a little knowledge and the right provider will put you at ease. And I just wanna preface this, I said, progesterone, because progesterone is the thing that I'm low in, but I believe it was estrogen.

[00:02:44] But either way, typically with menopausal women, or anyone who's struggling with their hormones, hormone replacement therapy could be an option, but some people previous to us may have not had good experiences, but where we're at now is a really good place to be. I'm so grateful hormone therapy has come a long way because it's essential for managing my PCOS.

[00:03:07] And as I said, for women, menopause, and then there's also a fascinating episode by a chiropractor about why not everyone should get their neck adjusted. This finally gave voice to what I've known for years but only recently finally started telling my chiropractor. And this is why this podcast and talking about advocating for ourselves is so important.

[00:03:33] Because even though I knew, like knew, knew, knew deep down that something was wrong when my neck was getting adjusted, I kept letting chiropractors do it to me. I thought, well, they're the doctor. And so I didn't advocate for myself. I look back at that now and think, what was I doing?

[00:03:53] Because of this, I had lost range of motion in my arms and was dizzy, constantly physical therapy brought me out of it, but without knowing, I went back several times. With new chiropractors and each new chiropractor, I would let them adjust my neck, not listening to my body, but thinking, Oh, well maybe it was just the chiropractor.

[00:04:13] Well, no, actually, it was my body responding to chiropractic care, not the individual chiropractor. So now I say absolutely not, because through trial and error, I know my body. But my experiences could have been avoided. This is an excellent episode that discusses how providers can screen for hypermobility and how hypermobility can be something we don't know we have unless our providers screen or until something horrible happens.

[00:04:43] So, like me, I had something happen and that's how I knew, oh, something is wrong. And hypermobility is not just double jointedness. It can look vastly different among people. I would not consider myself someone who is hyper mobile, but like now I know I do have a relatively decent amount of flexibility and my neck just can't take it.

[00:05:07] So even if I don't present in a typical way, it still applies to me. So it can look vastly different among people. Give that podcast episode a listen because it was so enlightening and I'll put both in the show now. Pretty much anything that I mention, I'll try to put in the show notes for you. And if I don't, you can email me. Lastly, I just want to apologize. I'm really committed to releasing a podcast a week. Well, here I am, a week and a day late. I am committed to recording 48 episodes over the course of 52 weeks. So I've used up one of my weeks already. I knew that would happen with ImagingUSA, but thought I would have one by this Thursday.

[00:05:49] But life has been out of hand. I don't even want to know my cortisol levels and will discuss my personal health next week on the podcast. I just want to reiterate to you that life isn't always perfect, but I'm committed to showing up for you. And I hope you are committed to showing up for your health too.

[00:06:05] Thank you for your time listening, your interest in women's health, and advocating for yourself. If you like this podcast, please share with friends and family. I'd be honored if you take time to leave a podcast review. It would mean so much to me and help get the word out.
